TigeraCat Rescues, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer, & donation operated organization for the humane treatment of cats and other domestic animals.
There are no paid staff members, EVERYONE IS A VOLUNTEER!
History:
Officially founded in October 2007, TigeraCat Rescues began as a small group of normal people with a deep respect for the world we live in and an even deeper love of the creatures we share it with. Our Founder/Director, Mrs. Larson, has been rescuing animals privately for more than 20 years and, with the help of family, friends, & neighbors, finally decided it was time to do it on a professional level and on a larger scale. Seeing a need for education and cooperation among cat-lovers (and animal-lovers) everywhere, she set out with friends, family, and community members to make it happen. TigeraCat Rescues was formed with the gracious & generous help of people around the state, nation, & world!
Mission:
To promote and encourage the humane treatment, health, and welfare of animals and to educate the public concerning the care, treatment, and welfare of animals with emphasis in felines.

TigeraCat Rescues is an ALL VOLUNTEER organization and COMMUNITY SUPPORTED.
TigeraCat Rescues is currently in the "building" stage. We would love to be able to provide full, No-Kill shelter services, spay/neuter services, and Trap-Neuter-Return Services and are diligently working towards these goals. TigeraCat Rescues does not curretly have a shelter to house animals, therefore can NOT currently provide full "shelter" services. As of October 1, 2009 our current temporary caregivers' homes are OVER-FULL. TigeraCat Rescues can not take-in animals without housing or properly trained caregivers.
The Cedar Valley is in desperate need of these services and TigeraCat Rescues is ready ... with the community's help.

END THE KILLING ... HELP SAVE IOWA'S CATS & KITTENS
What is TigeraCat Trying to Do?
Traditional sheltering practices allow the mass killing of sheltered animals ... Every year animal shelters in Iowa are killing thousands of healthy and treatable animals that could be placed in homes and thousands of feral cats that do not belong in animal shelters.
Citizens have a right to have their government spend their tax dollars not on programs and services that kill animals but on those that save and enhance the lives of animals and protect animals from cruelty -- Citizens have the right to full and complete disclosure about how animal shelters operate.
TigeraCat Rescues Is Currently Raising the Funds Necessary to Provide:
A NO-KILL cat shelter & adoption center
A spay/neuter clinic to provide low-cost spay/neuter, vaccination, & micro-chip services.
Trap-Neuter-Return Services in the Cedar Valley.
WOULDN'T IT BE NICE? A full-service, companion animal center located in northeast Iowa -- including a No-Kill shelter, adoption center, education & referral resource center, retail pet product store, obedience & agility training, vacation boarding, and high-volume, low-cost veterinary hospital services available to all area shelters, rescuers, & pet-owners. All under one roof?! A one-stop-shop for Iowa animals & animal lovers!
OUR DREAM: To see Iowa become the first "No-Kill" state! Providing all cats, companion & feral, with safe, healthy environments in which to live out their lives.
Why?
Unfortunately over 70% of cats entering animal shelters are killed by people who believe there is no other way. Over 80% of Americans believe that leaving a stray cat outside to live out its live is more humane than having the cat caught and killed, (U.S. Public Opinion on Humane Treatment of Stray Cats, Alley Cat Allies, Inc., 2007). Even in the hands of rescue workers, thousands of beautiful, undeserving cats are "humanely euthanized" every day! Humane Societies and Animal Control Agencies, nationwide, are being forced to euthanize (KILL) the adoptable & non-adoptable animals they diligently work to protect! Many in our society have become discouraged & turned away from assisting these organizations because of this overwhelming kill rate.
How?
Our community has long been concerned, frustrated, and disgusted with the actions being taken by our local humane society and animal control.
By supporting TigeraCat Rescues you are:
Promoting TNR
Lowering the stray/feral cat population (with proven, humane, NO-Kill practices)
Lowering the tax-dollars being spent on policies & procedures that have been proven not to work
Decreasing the strain being put on our local humane society
Raising care-standards of shelter animals.
Saving ill-spent tax-dollars
Decreasing property damage by feral cats.
Decreasing resident & property-owner complaints to code enforcement and animal control in regards to damage and nusance caused by unaltered, mating, outdoor cats.
Saving our tax-dollars by providing more cost-effective ways to manage unwanted animals!
Promoting low-cost spay/neuter Programs
Decreasing pet over-population.
Decreasing the number of animals entering the current animal shelter/humane society.
Helping citizens keep their pets without adding unwanted litters of puppies & kittens.
Increasing the number of animals getting quality veterinary care through the community's well-established veterinarians!
Decreasing the number of re-producing cats being "put out" to keep them from being "euthanized at the humane society".
Decreasing property damage by feral cats.
Decreasing resident & property-owner complaints to code enforcement and animal control in regards to damage and nuisance caused by outdoor cats.
Providing animal control and the humane society with more time & money to use towards SAVING ANIMALS, instead of wasting it on EUTHANASIA and time-consuming complaints they can do nothing about.
Saving our tax-dollars by providing more cost-effective ways to manage unwanted animals!
Creating a friendlier community for all!
By supporting TigeraCat Rescues, YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE, change things for the better, and provide a better community for the residents and animals alike!
