RESCUED ANIMAL UPDATES
DIKE KITTENS: On July 25, 2011 we rescued four kittens known as the "Dike Kittens". Eenie, Meenie, Miney, & Moe were born on a farm in Dike, Iowa. Their mother disappeared when they were but days old. The ditches and surrounding fields were searched, but she couldn't be located. After several days these 4 babies began wondering the yard, obviously thin, dehydrated and in desperate need of help. Eenie had a cutabrae larvae embedded in her neck that was causing her problems when she ate. Dr. Tammy Stevenson at Advanced Pet Care Clinic in Cedar Falls, IA surgically removed it and little Eenie recovered quickly into a purring bundle of sweetness. Moe had some problems eating, each time he'd eat the milk would come out his nose. He was checked by the veterinarian to ensure there wasn't a need for surgery, etc. due to a cleft palate or other problem. He is growing out of this and growing like a weed. Three of the kittens had low-blood sugar problems due to being orphaned at such a young age, but all have recovered with neo-natal care & feeding. All 4 are growing well and have received their first de-worming, FVRCP vaccinations, and other care. All will be ready for adoption on September 15, 2011 when they are abt. 8 or 9-weeks of age.
BC "Broken Cat": On Tuesday, August 30, 2011 we rescued a 9-month old kitten that had been run over by a tractor & sickle mower in the town of Elk Run Heights/Evansdale, Iowa. The woman who found the kitten had called Evansdale Animal Control to help, then called TigeraCat in fear she'd made the wrong decision in calling AC. She'd heard bad things about Evansdale AC. While we were on the telephone with her, the ACO arrived. We were shocked to hear him tell her he wouldn't be taking the kitten to the humane society or vet where it could get medical attention or be humanely euthanized because "they don't pay me enough to cover the gas to haul him out there". When she asked what he planned to do he told her he'd "take it to the woods and shoot it". We were shocked! And we couldn't let that happen to this kitten. Especially after learning it had willingly, almost eagerly crawled into the pet carrier on it's own.
So a TigeraCat volunteer responded and the kitten was rushed to the veterinarian where it was found he had multiple fractures & lacerations including a broken pelvis. Other than his injuries and the normal things seen in a stray he was healthy and VERY friendly. His x-rays were sent to board certified veterinary orthopedic surgeons in Cedar Rapids & Ames. Both determined that although his injuries would heal, it would be best if surgery was performed to pin his pelvis together to ensure proper placement during the healing process. Surgery would have to be performed no later than the morning of Tuesday, September 6th or the bones would likely have healed too much. The surgery was estimated to cost $2000-$2500 and at least 50% needed to be paid in advance. We immediately began raising funds for BC and an amazing outpouring of support came in from all over the world. By Tuesday morning we'd raised just under $500, then at 7:30PM that evening a very generous donor from Canada donated another $500. We were hopeful that BC would still be able to have the surgery. But after consulting with the veterinarian & surgeons, and re-evaluating BC it was determined he was healing too quickly and it was too late for the surgery. But this is a mixed blessing. His fast healing means BC is strong and has a great chance at a full recovery if he receives proper care!
Thanks to all the wonderful people who donated to help him, BC will get the best of care during his recovery! He will be confined in a cage to minimize his movement for the next 6-weeks then his injuries will be re-evaluated and he'll start physical therapy. Dr. Tammy Stevenson will oversee his ongoing care and he will recover in the home of a wonderful lady who used to be a vet tech and nurse, who LOVES KITTIES! So he'll be in great hands while he heals and prepares to be adopted into his own fur-ever home sometime in October or November!
Hope this helps. Wish we had time to say more, but the kitties are waiting for their lunch and work has to be done. Thank you everyone for your continued support. We couldn't do it without you!
Today was Tink's special day. Rescued in March, Tink is now a Wisconsin "Cheese-Head", and enjoying her new parents Glen & Velda. Congratulations Tink!

In order to Save the Animals, there has to be a safe place for them to go and be cared for properly until they are adopted. TigeraCat Rescues has the opportunity to provide more space! But we need your help. We've been the lucky recipients of some veterinary-quality, stainless-steel housing units that will provide years of life-saving space for a cat or kitten in need of a "safe place"! But they need some parts and repairs before we can use them.
We've had to turn away so many animals in need because we had no place for them to go. But with your help, we'll have more space!
And your gift is one that will keep on giving! As each rescued cat/kitten is adopted, a new one will have a safe place to come to, recover after veterinary care, and be seen by loving adopters! And these adopters will see that YOU are the wonderful person that helped save the life of that precious kitten!
How? Your one-time, tax-deductible gift of just $50 will repair and ready one unit to start saving lives! And, your name will be permanently engraved on a brass plaque to be placed on that life-saving unit as it's sponsor for all to see!
This money can be used for a variety of purposes such as supplies, veterinary care, medications or anywhere there's a need for funding, this program will certainly help.
You can bring or send the caps, bag tops, and Glazers price ovals to TigeraCat Rescues anytime. We can receive cash payment monthly from Kwik Star, so there's no need to save them up at home. Simply bring or send them in for deposit into our collection box and we can start benefiting from the cash right away.
